Our Journey
From 30 players in a sports hall to 250+ members — the story of how Eastside Hoops brought basketball to the community.
The Eastside Hoops Story
Built on teamwork, effort, and accountability.
The Club is Founded
James Carter — a former league player with years of competitive experience and a degree in coaching — launches the first Eastside Hoops training session with 30 enthusiastic children. His mission: bring basketball to the local community and build something everyone could be proud of.
Rapid Growth
Word spreads fast. Within months the club outgrows its original capacity. Community sessions for ages 7–14 are structured into age groups, and a dedicated coaching team begins to form around James's vision.
250 Members in 9 Months
By the summer of 2022, Eastside Hoops has over 250 registered members. Sessions are capped at 30 players and run in 6–7 week blocks. The club establishes its home at Riverside Sports Centre.
The Women's Team Launches
Recognising the need for girls-only basketball, the Women's Team programme is launched — providing a welcoming space for girls aged 7+ to develop skills, build confidence, and compete. The response is overwhelming.
Competitive Squads & Fixtures
Eastside Hoops enters local and regional leagues with squad-level teams. Trial selection, competitive fixtures, and structured strength & conditioning programmes raise the bar. The club builds a reputation for strong team spirit and competitive play.
Where We Are Today
Today the club runs Community Sessions (ages 7–14), Squad Programmes (ages 10+), and Women's Team (girls 7+) with multiple age groups, regular fixtures, and a growing family of players, parents, and supporters. We're just getting started.
What's Next
More age groups, more fixtures, more community events, and ultimately putting Hertfordshire on the basketball map. Our ambition is to grow the game locally and create pathways for every player — from first touch to competitive level.
